Had on tap at a bar in Waterloo.
Pours a dark amber with downish head.
Smelled sweet roasted malts. Similar to many bocks.
Tasted great. Full roasted lager flavor with a Light finish that didn't leave you needing to drink more.
Smooth finish that makes this easy to drink a few. Something I usually find hard to do with dark lagers.

Overall a great local brew. Would recommend anybody to try.

L (4.25) - Nice dark color, with a light tan head on top. Takes a bit for it to come down, but reasonable.
S (3.75) - Not a whole lot of aromas here. A little roast or nutty smell. Very little hop or anything else. But this style isn't supposed to be much in that way.
T (4.25) - This beer has a good taste. Good dark-roasted tastes and aftertastes. Not too bitter. Not much hop presence. Not much alcohol taste either.
F (4) - Decent enough mouthfeel. Good carb, fairly smooth drinking.
O (4) - This is a good honest doppelbock. It comes in a quart bottle, so you're in it for the evening, and that's okay. I would drink again, for sure.

On tap at the Gaslamp - very authentic dopplebock & great way to warm up a cold Febrewary Friday night w/ a couple of these. Very dark, rich, thick & satisfying. Recommended!

A - Dark, amber to dark amber. There is a little bit of the roasted color from some highly kilned malts, but not enough to make it totally dark.

Smell - Nutty with slight hop aroma. The bread undertone is nice too.

Taste - They say there is a lot of Munich in the description and it certainly comes through. Very clean, bread, nut, slight hint of almond. This was nicely lagered and the malt comes thorugh cleanly.

Mouthfeel- has a hint of the flowery feel from lagering, but that is overpowered by the beer's heavy body.

Overall - a nice winter warmer. It is obviously a German lagered beer, and has a familiar simplicity that dopplebocks normally have. I'd have to say, though, that it is a little too simple and could use just a little something extra to make it special. Good brew overall though.
