This medium bodied, malty amber ale was mashed with 50 pounds of apples and flavored with apple pie spices and apple blossom honey from Beetown Honey in Bloomington. Braggot is the name given to a beer-mead hybrid. Over 20% of the fermentables in this beer come from honey.

I rather enjoyed this beer. It's my first time trying braggot, and it certainly won't be my last. Here goes:

A: Beautiful red color with a large head and adequate lacing. Crystal clear.

S: Kind of one-dimensional. Smell cinnamon and apple, but the honey is very subdued and, overall, the scents aren't that spectacular.

T: Better. Lots of apple and cinnamon coat the palate. Also a fair amount of sweet honey (definitely more in the taste than in the smell). Enjoyable.

F: Nice and well-carbonated. Sufficiently think and sticky.

O: Good beer and a fine introduction to braggots.
