Saturday 27th Oct 2012: local CAMRA surveying trip. The first pub we hit is the only Oakwell Brewery owned place in Shropshire, The Seven Stars, in a hamlet called Cold Hatton (strange pub to have as your only outpost in a county).
My first pint was of this, and I really enjoyed it. Hand-pulled into a UK sleeve, the body was a good brown, deep amber with red hints: on top an off-white head of foaming bubbles that stayed the distance and also left heavy lacing on my glass.
The aroma was malty and semi-sweet, as was the taste. Mild toffee flavours are joined by fruitiness and a nutty note before the dry, bitter finish, in this well balanced brew.
More to this than the Oakwell Senior.
