This robust porter stands up to the meanest of holiday meals, but is equally delicious for fireside sipping. Rich but dry, each taste lingers on with mouthwatering notes of caramel, chocolate, and coffee. Made with a full ton of hand-peeled, quartered and roasted sweet potatoes, this porter is one grandma would approve of.

16 oz can from Brewers Haven. Medium clear brown pour, small beige head. Aroma is roasty, sweet potatoes, brown sugar. Taste comes off like a straight up porter, before some sweet notes settle in. Nice accents of the sweet potatoes without obscuring the porter elements.

I have tried to visit this brewery. The last couple of times I went, they were closed. Sweet potato porter sounded interesting to me. I wondered if this beer is going be like a pumpkin ale, or porter-like. The beer is 42 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour of the beer produced a two-fingered head with okay retention. No lacing was left on the glass from the head. The color of the beer is SRM 30, a dark brown with a dark reddish hue. The beer is mostly opaque with some light penetrating. The appearance of the beer is average for this style.
The hiss of the can as I opened it emitted a pleasant malty aroma. The initial aromas are chocolate, roasted malts, sweet potatoes, and molasses. Next, I smell smokiness, earthiness, a subtle hint of floral, burnt sugar, toffee, and caramel.
The initial flavors of the beer are chocolate, mild coffee, roasted malts, and molasses. Next, I taste sweet potatoes, smokiness, fire, caramel, burnt sugar, toffee, herbal, and floral, earthiness, and a touch of Maillard.
The mouthfeel of the beer is dry and astringent, carbonated.
The body of the beer is medium, medium-low carbonation, and a fuller finish.
This porter is pleasant and flavorful. The beer does have more pronounced roasted notes but not pushing towards a stout. I taste sweet potato flavors, but overly powerful. For me, the sweet potato is like an accompaniment. What I love best about this beer is they did not add baking spices to the beer. This beer mingles well with its main ingredients, making it pleasing on the palate. A lovely beer I enjoyed it!

Look - 2-3 finger head coming out of the 16oz. can - super dark brown with a great frothy head and decent retention - nice lacing remains after the head recedes
Smell - Slightly earthy and vegetabley - slight hops - caramel and toffee - burnt sugar / charred wood - slight nuttiness
Taste - Nice bite with some sweet potato and dark roasted grains (slight bitter bite) - some hops maybe - cocoa, toffee, and coffee enter in next - sweetens up a bit with some more sweet potato - trails off with some charred wood and punch of Irish/British yeast.
Feel - Right on the line of full bodied and medium - could be a bit fuller though
Overall - This is a good beer - not just gimmicky but done quite well - not a ton of sweet potato flavor but apparent - great flavor and pretty unique - would recommend and will drink again
