a mexican lager, we should probably have a distinct category for the style here on BA. in any event, this isnt their best beer, not even their best lager, and a far cry from their awesome pils i enjoyed a couple weeks back. the main attributes of this are that its impossibly light and nice and bubbly, refreshing when ice cold, but i look for a little more in the style. its not quite clear and almost watered down looking, a yellow tone with a tall and wispy white head from the tap. it smells slightly chemical but pretty minimal overall, fruity in a weird way for this yeast strain, less hops than the best examples of the style have. the flavor is sort of soda-esque, i get a slightly artificial lemon and lime thing happening, and a cheap beer adjunct element, not quite metallic and only when it warms up a little, but i want this to be cleaner than it is in the fermentation, the best parts of this lager yeast are not on display here. it could use a little more of a snappy finish too, and it feels thin to me overall. its not bad, but its just a yellow beer too light to hide any of its mild flaws. i have come to expect a lot from these guys, so while this hit the mark for a quick afternoon crusher just fine, it left a little to be desire at the same time, made me long for their pils...
