i believe this is another rotating series where the hops change from brew to brew, it was strata hops when we were in, and really a nice showcase of these. strata is still hot, but i feel like now its more often combined with others than on its own, so it was neat to interact with it in a mostly clear double ipa like this, more versatile i think than it gets credit for. here it starts with a sort of grassy and onion layer, which is quickly replaced by sweet citrus, candied orange, and juicy melon, the more familiar side of strata. i get some pineapple here too, maybe even raw coconut, fresh herbal tea character, and just a little bit of late bitterness. its oily but not overly so, its fruity not in a generic way, and it has some neat nuance to it, pretty complex as a single hop. the beer itself is nice too, lighter on the malt side than a lot of these and relatively light in body for what it is too. i dont miss more from the grain, and i like the invisible ferment too, its just all about the strata, and its nice. easier drinking for the style, even on the brink of refreshing, which is not a normal double ipa descriptor for me. this hop is on the rise for a reason, its unique and now pretty easily recognizable i think, and if you are still unfamiliar, this beer is a great way to get acquainted with it. roadhouse does everything well!
