funny they named this dad bod, which i think implies laziness, especially in an amber ale type, which is sort of the quintessential beginner home brew thing, yet they have crafted a beer that is quite unique, even a style bender. its darker than most, slightly bready and english to me both on the grain and on the yeast side, and its hoppier than a lot of these, but with more of a a spicy herbal noble hop complexion, so its unique in a number of ways, and presents itself as anything but lazy, despite the soft carbonation befitting of this sort of thing. i am not often one to get too excited about an amber ale, but this is excellent because its well refined and far more complex than is the standard, i like the deeper malt base, almost a chocolate sort of brown ale complexion to it, and it has some nutty toasted warmth without being either sweet or heavy. the hops start in the middle and ride through the finish, grassy for a second but then more punchy and bitter, spicy, and bold, they more than balance the grain in the end and contribute quite a lot. this is the more flavorful side of amber ale, way more interesting, subtle as most of it is. i enjoyed this a lot, a nice contrast to all the belgian, hoppy, and strong stuff these guys are making. they really cover a lot of ground in terms of styles here!
