Served at the brewpub in a 10-oz snifter.
Look: Black, with a 1/2” head with pretty good retention, adequate lacing
Nose: Not a lot — a bit of sweet bread?
Attack: Certainly the dark roast, and a little Mexican spice — yes, the peppers and cinnamon.
Finish: Bitterness from the dark roast to balance.
Mouthfeel: Thinner than I would expect from a stout, adequate carbonation.
Overall: Though the menu calls this a Mexican Chocolate Stout, I placed it in the American Stout category, because that’s the closer best fit; in fact, this tastes like an American Stout with a little Mexican spice added. It is drinkable, and somewhat enjoyable — not sure I’d order it again, though, as there are abundant alternatives.
