L : Possibly the prettiest red/copper/brown brew I have ever seen. Zero freakin' head. One hell of a tough start.
S : Hitting all the belgian ale highlights,,, alcohol, plum, sugar, tart apple, caramel. A farm ale nose.
T : Dry, tart, sweet, malt, sour, caramel. deeper and darker tasting than any other Belgian type ale I have experienced. Almost metallic at sip, which fades on the tongue. Different, not outstanding...strange.
F ; A bit dry. Balanced on the sticky vs. watery front...good, But... increasingly drier on the aftertaste. Not so good.
O : I wanted to love this beer, I almost loved this beer... but ultimately spurned. A Humphrey Bogart likeable but not quite good enough brew. Here's lookin' at you, kid.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. The best thing about it is the color, which is a pleasing, coppery red. There is a thin head and less carbonation than ideal, though a small stream of bubbles rises from the bottom of the glass for quite a while.
This reminds me more of an Irish red ale or lager, like Killian's, than a Belgian ale. The mouth feel is thinner than expected, and it's not as smooth or sweet as most Belgian ales. There is hardly a hint of the typical fruity or clove taste from Belgian yeasts. It is quite malty, or earthy. Slightly bitter.
I appreciate that the brewery tried to make a Belgian ale, my favorite type of beer, but it has plenty of work to do. Overall, I'm disappointed with it. I hope the brewery keeps trying and tweaking the recipe. Trader Joe's hefeweizen tastes more Belgian to me.

You got a love the name! This is an easy drinker (for me). I do feel the colour should be a deeper hue of copper that said, tastes good being it's domestic. Dubbels that I've have from Belgium are similar tasting but bolder.

This one was clear until the final ounce deposited yeast sediment. The beer has a new-penny-copper hue. A loose, off-white head is short lived, leaving a webbing of lace in its wake. Through the walls of a Pretentious Glass Company American Lager pint, one can see no visible carbonation.
The aroma is filled with malt with mild caramel. Sweet candy sugar gives way to late astringent soapiness.
Astringency unfortunately fills the flavor profile from the beginning. Toasted malt and light sweetness are overwhelmed by bitterness that continues to build into a modest finish.
Alcohol seems lower than 6.9% suggested. Carbonation is soft and well below style expectations. It has a light to medium body and a texture reminiscent of nylon. The finish is a bit dry.
This one needs some work. Fortunately, there is a good football game to distract from my disappointment.

One of my favorites due to the name, color and crispness.

Can from Rishi’s. Thank you!! Demonstrates why dubbels are tricky. Lacks head and Belgian kick.

Very malty and delicious but lacking in much complexity. This is one of my favorite styles. It's not as good as some of the imports available but like it and I like that it's from Michigan.
