Way to much head. Really over carbonated. Found it wasteful and difficult to drink.

My first try of this San Diego brewery.Pours into an imperial nonic a clear brass color with a lacey white head atop.Earthy and leafy hop profile in the nose along with caramel malts. Not a real hop splash on the palate, more fruity and not bitter,a big caramel and mild brown sugar malt base is as big as the hop profile.Eh not overly impressed with my first try of Helm's.

I don't know what was wrong, but something was really bad with this one.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear copper red with a small creamy off white head that goes to a thin film that laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet sugary caramel malt and perfumey hops with a little butterscotch.
The flavor is lots of butterscotch diacetyl and lots of bitter minty hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is light bodied and a bit watery.
Overall, not a very good IPA.

22oz bomber poured into a pint glass.
L: Yellow-ish orange color.
Fairly hazy.
I poured quite slowly and still ended up with way too much head and lots of wasted beer flowing over the rim. To be fair, the glass was at room temperature, but still seems a bit over carbonated. I will say that it is a beautiful, thick, cream colored head which takes a while to dissipate.
S: Caramel. Hoppy floral scent
T: Sweet and malty. Caramel flavor is definitely there, but not as pronounced as I had expected from the smell. Nice hop presence.
Ends with a spicy, orange flavor and just the right amount of bitterness.
F: Body is between heavy and medium.
Well carbonated after the volcano subsides.
O: Excellent flavor that would be great for an after dinner beer. They just need to turn down the carbonation a couple notches.
