From growler to Mikasa tulip glass
An experimental Belgian pale, at least in its hop-profile. Hop-forward, and I suppose it would fall under the newer style of more hoppy pales than you'd find in Belgium, but I wouldn't call this a "hoppy" beer - for those averse to big, bitter IPA's, this one won't scare you off. In fact, the added Saaz hops creates flavors unlike any Belgian I've tried (it's distinctly apple-y), and the end result is a pretty damn tasty brew. The specs:
A: Copper-tan in color and clear, as expected for a pale ale. Oily and viscous...no head whatsoever.
S: The nose is floral and sweet, with fruity aspects right at the front. Lemon pepper, honeyed biscuits and a touch of coriander are noted. Earthy, grassy notes linger at the edge of the bouquet.
T: The fruity aspects are at the front of the palate, although unlike the nose they're distinctly apple-y, like green apples. A little peppery citrus pops up mid-sip, combining with the honey-sweet malt-backbone. There's some booze in this one, which helps dry the palate toward the finish, along with a touch of funk. Finishes long and sweet.
M: Oily, chewy. From the appearance I was afraid the beer was flat, but it just a viscous brew, suppressing the formation frothy bubbles.
