This is a full-bodied and flavorful brew that is not quite like most Saison-style concoctions. There is a fruity taste with a big malty body. Color is dark reddish amber. Brewer says this is made with a farmhouse yeast and boiled with smoked applewood chips. Not any appreciable hop flavors. The yeasty character comes through in the aftertaste with a bitter touch. Slight woody astringency, which serves to add some balance to the sweet bite. From the 32 oz growler purchased at the Helm's Ocean Beach tasting room.

On tap at True North in San Diego.
Pour arrived with almost no head, but a thin ring held on for a good while.
Aroma: Sweet malts with hints of caramel and some fruity and spicy aspects.
Flavor: this is very malty for style but t works well. Excellent bitter/sweet balance.
Feel: carbonation is a bit too low. Smooth. Medium body.
O: off style but tasty and recommended anyway.
