L) Pours a lovely dark espresso color and swirls like oil. The head is several fingers thick of rich tan creaminess, but the retention and lacing is surprisingly poor.
S) The smell is strong, incredibly roast forward. There are deep notes of dark candied sugar and burnt toffee that are intoxicating, and the booziness from the beer itself and the apple brandy is evident.
T) Very roast forward, similar to the nose, with notes of baker's chocolate, toffee, and a surprising amount of dark fruit, particularly bitter raisin. There is a noticeable sharp "zing" from the apple brandy, and an incredible amount of booziness. This is a green beer when drank fresh, a couple years in the can would do it great.
F) The mouth feel is wonderfully creamy and rich. Medium carbonation does it justice, but it drinks better when it's opened up a smidge and lost some carbonation.
O) This is a really solid brew, but man, I am holding a beer back for a while to really see how this puppy matures. It should be a solid 4.5 in 14-20 more months.
