The beer pours a light creamy head that dissipates very quickly. The beer itself is a dark chocolate dark brown that is essentially black. It has a nice oily texture.
The smell is good. It has a sweet dark chocolate note alongside the lactose. The bourbon is there but it's a bit light.
The taste is also good. It has more bourbon notes upfront followed the dark chocolate, vanilla, and lactose notes.
The feel is okay. It has a heavy body with a thin feel to it and tingling carbonation.
Overall, a decent beer but the barrel aging seems to have muddled the good parts of the original.

L: Pours a dark hickory, forming a moderate espresso head. Fades slowly, revealing a cloudy layer of foamy retention and a consistent frothy ring of lacing on the edge of the snifter. Held to the light, this beer has an opaque mocha hue.
S: Aromas of bourbon barrel, followed by coffee roast and vanilla. Hint of lactose.
T: Heavy bourbon influence - plenty of coffee and barrel up front, followed by vanilla and malt. There is a creamy lactose sweetness that emerges as the initial barrel assault fades. Hints of spice, char, and oak in the finish.
F: Medium- to full-bodied. Very smooth and drinkable, a bit thinner than expected. Faint carbonation.
O: Good, not great. The bourbon barrel is a bit overpowering on both the nose and the tongue. Fine for sipping but there are better imperial stouts out there.
