500ml Bottle
Appearance - Reddish brown colour with an above average size fizzy and frothy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some decent lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.
Smell - Malts, breads/grains, dark fruits, roasted/toasted notes
Taste & Mouth - There is a low amount of carbonation and the most noticeable flavours are malts, raisins, and some grains. I can also taste some light hops and a bit of a metallic flavour. It finishes with a very malty dark fruit sweet aftertaste.
Overall – Although I didn’t particularly care for the taste of this beer, I still appreciated the fact that it was at least a little bit different from the rest of the euro beers out there. The taste was just a little bit too sweet and I was getting tired of the beer towards the end of the glass. (also, my version had 4.7% alcohol)

500ml bottle...
A - Nice clear brown body, with a fairly creamy beige head. Okay lacing and decent head retention.
S - A very sweet, confectionary smell to it. Almost smells like chocolate-covered prunes. Nice.
T - This beer has a very distinct, sweet prune taste to it, together with hints of chocolate, caramel, and rye bread. Some earthy hops can also be distinguished. The finish is sweet and bready. Overall, this is one of the most flavourful Czech dark lagers I've had.
M - Light-to-medium body to it. VERY smooth, velvety, and almost creamy. Feels very soft on the palate. No trace of alcohol.
D - Drinks well and goes down very smoothly. The 4.7% ABV is higher than in some other similar Czech beers, though, so I can't give this more than a 4/5.
The label didn't exaggerate. This is one of the finest dark Czech lagers out there!

500ml green bottle with gold foil.
It pours a brownish reddish cola color with a foamy tan head that leaves no lacing.
The smell is pretty good, it is caramally with some cocoa, not unlike a English Dark Mild. This one however is infused with a little kiss of noble hops that lend a slight fruitiness.
The flavor is surprisingly sweet for the abv. After the initial burst of sweetness it mellows out with a nice bit of bitterness and some dark bread flavors. The sweetness is primarily caramel and cocoa.
It is drinkable to a point, it could be sessionable but it is a bit sweet.

This is a good, solid, dunkel/dark-lager type, mellow but with some nice light complexity.
Very deep reddish brown, it has a medium tan head steadily shrinking to a foamy ring.
Aroma is toasted sweet brown bread, raisin bread, hint of gingerbread, some prune and wet leaves. Overall, very nice with a little definite complexity.
Taste is toasty and caramelly raisin up front with darkly toasted bread crust, hints of chocolate, gingerbread, and spice such as anise. It leans slightly to the sweet side but just barely, with a spicey-peppery bite in the finish. It is actually quite excellent after a slow start, mellow and smooth but with a firm character and some good complexity.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark color lager with a rather large foamy head with OK retention and not much lacing. Aroma of nut and roasted malt with sweet malt backbone is singular. Taste is a lot sweeter then expected with loads of nutty notes with some light roasted malt. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. A lot sweeter then expected, maybe tad too much in fact, but drinkable.

From a green 500ml bottle, bought at the SAQ 2,95$. Nice mahogany colour with a thick beige head, very good head retention. On the nose this beer has a nice aroma of nut, chocolate. The taste is very good with some nut and chocolate as well. I like this beer.

Reddish brown, cola colored, with a ruby glint in the light. Surprisingly good looking, lots of lacing on the glass and decent retention. Skunky at first, probably due to the green bottle. Later it becomes more sweet with molasses and some mild grassy noble hops.
Sipping this, it has a mellow, soft water feel like many Czech Pils have, but also a dunkel-like sweetness. Toasted malt and sweet cookie flavors, almost cloying but not quite. Carbonation is somewhat low giving it a supple feel. Fairly easy drinking, would pair well with food to cut the sweetness a little.
Samson Premium was my regular beer at Johnnie's (RIP John), and I have to say, Samson Dark/Černý is far better than the regular Samson. Probably will pick this up from now on when the nostalgic mood strikes...

Poured into a Nonic pint glass from a 500ml bottle.
A: Beer pours a deep dark brown with mild carbonation and very little head that settles quickly.
S: It has a very pleasant smell of carmel molasses maybe a little nutty.
T: First sip went down really well. You could taste a mild hoppiness, carmel and molasses flavor with some hints of fruitiness or herbals. Beer does not appear very complex but has a really good taste. Leaves a mild but sweet aftertaste.
M&D: The beer felt light and minimally carbonated with an excellent feel. An extremely drinkable beer probably due to the low alcohol content .
At $1.49 an excellent price and great drinking dark lager. Will buy this again.

Clear dark brown with a one inch light tan head. Fair amount of lacings. Aroma is roasted malts with a hint of molasses. Taste is sweet rich caramel, a little molasses, a touch of coffee, and a fair bitter euro hop flavor to help offset the sweetness. Mouthfeel was good overall. Finish is medium dry and slightly bitter. Drinkability is exceptional provided you like dark beers and don't mind the sweet aspect of it. Would be very nice with spicey foods.

Picked this up at European market in Mountain View, CA, that specializes in Eastern European and Russian foods.
Poured it into a pils glass, although it might have been good in a tulip, too. Medium cola color, but with a nice off-white/beige head of good size, and plenty of lacing.
Taste-wise, it's not too hoppy, although there is a little bit. Mostly, however, the palate is dominated by modest caramel notes. Very well balanced and is reminiscent of the Spaten Dunkel Weiss, without the wheat flavors.
Mouthfeel is pleasant, not too thin or too heavy, with good, but not overbearing carbonation. Drinkability is quite high due to the low alcohol content and mild flavors.

Poured into a pokal a rich mix of chesnut brown and garnet,a tight one finger beige head atop that left a smattering of lace as it settled quickly.A mix of bark bread and brown butter-like nuttiness in the nose with a whiff of "green" hop.Mild but pleasant flavors, again the dark bread comes in to play with some light buttery caramel and nut,the hops are subdued but give off a gental herbal finish.A easy quaffer and pretty enjoyable, although I drank it alone Iam sure its extremely food friendly.

Samson Dark Lager pours two fat fingers of tan foam over a clear, deep coffee
colored brew. Carbonation is active, and the nose is toasty malt and a note of
molasses. The flavor is slightly sweet malt up front with coffee notes and a bit
of an herbal hop finish. It's pretty full-bodied for a lager, but still crisp. If it's a
dark lager you're after this is a pretty decent one. Your basic good, easy drinking
Czech lager, and it's good with pizza!
