Had on tap. After tasting this I wondered if I accidentally ordered a whiskey, because this is so boozy and hot! Smell has some notes that should be in the taste of peated earth, roasted malt and faint molasses, but again booze is so strong. Feel is hot, thin, it burns going down, malts only thing that isn't instantly obliterated but even it loses out. Cloudy brown body and plump tan head is nice though, so not whiskey!

On tap. Poured out a cloudy, murky light brown head of foam. It smelled of bourbon, peat, smoke and roasted malt. Big boozy taste with a lot of bourbon flavor and notes of coffee, peat & smoke.

From the Church Street website:
"Bourbon Barrel Aged Paint It Plaid
Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy
11.9% ABV 40 IBU Church Street Brewing Company Itasca, IL
A rich and robust Scotch-style ale. Roasted and caramel malts combine for a complex range of toffee and fruity flavors and a hint of peated notes in this dark, high-gravity brew. Starting gravity of 1.100 SG. Aged in Buffalo Trace barrels"
The bottle lable, however, states the starting gravity is 1.188 and the abv is 13%.
Either way, my review:
22oz bottle, undated, and poured into a snifter shows a muddy chocolate-brown body and floats a 1/2in cap of cream colored, mixed-size, bubbles that disippates to a nebulous island and edge-hugging ring leaving a clean glass behind. When back-lit a clear, cola colored body proudly shines.
Aromas of caramel, peat, oak, molasses, vanilla, plum, apricot, sweet cherry, leather, char, toffee and sweat make for an exciting, rich, and complex experience.
The flavors match with the bourbon components up front and the fruit stronger mid-palate, finishing with dried fruits like raisin, apricot, and prune. No aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is full and creamy with a clean finish.
Overall, I'll happily share another bottle of this fine sipper.
