Imperial Scotch Ale aged in Islay Single Malt quarter casks. Smoky and peaty! Islay Single Malt Whiskey is known for its distinct peated flavor which highlights the elements of land and sea. Lake Effect brewers traveled to Islay to source fresh barrels to bring home and age a delicious ale.

A robust, malty barleywine ale for of stone fruit notes gradually gives way to the flavors of Islay with a slightly smoky peated finish. This beer is not for those who detest peated scotch - you may want to stay away. Bur if you are ready for an amazing flavor ride this ale is for you.

Horrible! Like drinking a bad cardboard fire. One sip, and hello drain. Maybe I’m missing something but I’ve many barley wines and this is just dreadful.

2022:
2021 release, 12 oz. can from the brewery. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a finger of tan foam that fizzles out quickly due to the 13% abv.

Rich toffee aroma, caramelized sugars, sticky pecan rolls, dates, caramel syrup.

Medium bodied and sticky with moderate heat, reminds me of Straight Jacket. Not a wisp of smoke in this version, seems more like a bourbon barrel or highland whisky barrel.

2019:
Draft sample at the Umpteenth Annual CBS Picnic, 2019. A bagpiper escorted the brewery staff as they carried the keg to be tapped.

Rich with heavy peat smoke, this is as close to an Islay whisky as i've had before in a beer. Plenty of sticky malt heft and vague dried fruit from the base barleywine. Dried berry and plum. Medicinal peat, charred vegetable, roasted beets. Medium bodied though it was highly attenuated and slightly thin in feel with a mellow alcohol warmth. Not overly distracting, but it could be a little bigger. Otherwise it was intensely smoky and very awesome. Laphroaig Quarter Cask is my favorite Islay whisky, i'd venture a guess they used those barrels going by the description.
