description from brewery: uk marris otter and dark crystal malts. Raw cane sugar. Centennial,
Chinook, and Columbus hops. at almost 2.5# of hops per barrel, this is a big one! Citrus, pine,
spice, and a full backbone of malt. the dark crystal leaves a little sweetness in the bitter finish.
growler well sealed and kept cold. purchased 8/14
A- on a hardy pour. white frothy foam. leaves good amount of lacing. mild transparent copper
color.
S- NOTHING!! well maybe not nothing just the tiniest bit of a malty biscuit smell.
T- bitter bomb with nothing to back it up. malt or hops. for the hype of hops they use I can tell
they through them all in at the get go. besides lack of malt and hop flavor i can't believe it but i
get more of a yeasty flavor. picture a real bitter and slight yeasty beer and this is it. almost like
an irish yeast or a mega strong English yeast that kills hop profile.
M- medium/ light body. carbonation in good.
DRINKABILITY- i don't know why i got a growler of this.
Overall- this ipa to their others tastes the same. as in just bitterness with jack sh^t backing it up.
i remember trying their Huntington ipa which is dry hopped with Columbus and couldn't even
taste the hops. note to the brewer* try Avery's hog heaven barleywine which is all Columbus
and dry hopped with Columbus and you def get the hop flavor even dealing with that amount
of malt. as a hophead this place just isn't for me. i can see why their scotch ale was the talk and
also out. also i put good carbonation. that being in a growler for some days. at the brewery i
thought it was alil more carbonated to my liking. my advice if you're drinking their ipa's is to let
the beer sit for a moment. let it warm up to get any flavor you can out of it. i'm giving it a crap
rating because don't address to the hophead this hop madness beer when it's like a low rent ipa.
i feel bad to new Holland but even their basic mad hatter might be hoppier and more complex
than this.
