My bomber endured a few days of unrefrigerated neglect and some hard travel before I could sit down and enjoy what might be my last Hawks beer ever. And it poured out with equal measures of head and body, which caused me some concern. But the roasted grain flavor with chocolate accents was delicious, and I found the light body ultimately complimentary to the dark beer.

Hawks oatmeal stout is stunningly easy to drink, especially at warmer temperatures. It is outwardly black or root beer colored, but a flashlight beam passes through a brilliant “Mars lake” red. Lace forms in drooping annulus rings. The aroma is fine chocolate.

Smooth and sorrowful, this beer among others from the late Hawks brewing, will be missed.

Pours a dark brown with tan highlights, topped by a sturdy, creamy tan head that leaves a nice sticky lacing as it slowly dissipates down the glass. Aroma of rich roasted malt along with some chocolate, oatmeal, and toffee notes. Palate is a nice, dry roasted malt accented by sweet notes from the chocolate malt and oatmeal. The nice creamy body is about perfect for an oatmeal stout. Very drinkable, and it hides the high alcohol content quite well.

Pours a thick, dark red, basically black after poured. Large, thick tan head forms very quickly and fades slowly.

Smells of vanilla and oats. Very tasty.

Tastes of vanilla, oats, with an oak edge. Very unique, unearthly smooth.

This is by far the smoothest, silkiest stout I've ever had, and it just slips down your throat with just the faintest hint of carbonation. Leaves your mouth feeling slightly sticky, but not sweet.

Definitely a solid oatmeal stout, one of the best I've had.

Extremely deep brown, superbly lasting well-laced foamy dark beige head. A most boldly roasty nose with a noticeable anise influence. Standing in the middle of the bridge between an 4 and a 4.5 to my nose. Very malty up front, the oatmeal brings a fitting cereal touch, up lifting chocolate flavors in a more approachable way while soft leafy hops procure a sense of balance. Surprisingly quite leafy and moderately bitter, earthy even. The licorice from the nose blends naturally with the upcoming mellow alcohol vapors, remaining in the background as an uprising smokiness pushes them aside. Coffee laden roastiness fights off beany vanilla sweetness and those accurate flavors remain held tightly together thanks to a round, well carbonated, cleansing malty full body. Most remarkable stout in my book balancing potency with more humility than you can handle (just look at that bottle!)

Appearance: A black hole sun crowned with a dense high-top head and a few flakes at it's feet.

Smell: Robust coffee, a mix of anise and alcohol reminiscent of pastis and a dark fruit finish.

Taste: Charred coffee and cocoa beans, decent body and long, pleasant aftertaste. Alcohol well masked. I wouldn't see myself drinking a ton of this, but when in the right mood I wouldn't mind having another taste.

Thanks go out to cmaruschak for more West Coast Stout goodness...He was kind enough to split this with me whilst our own stout was boiling away

Appearance: Pours cola black and clear with ruby edges and a popping, foamy white head.

Smell: Light musty, grainy, oats, cola, maple, and brown sugar invite the nose to imbibe this monster.

Taste: Wheat bread, licorice, dry cocoa powder, bitter coffee, roasted malts, cola, and an alcohol backbone that is present throughout the tasting. There is a lot going on here and it seems to massage the palate between coffee bitterness and roasty malted sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a drying, alcohol finish. Carbonation is lively and ramped up but not in an overpowering way.

Drinkability: Highly drinkable. It's big and complex but not heavy. At 8% it's one of the higher oatmeal stouts I've had. One to be savored and appreciated. Strongly recommended.

A lasting light tan head sits atop this black brew. Full and creamy. Very fruity nose, wasn't expecting that at all! Coco notes as well. I get that fruit again with my first taste, what a delight! The coco comes threw also, satisfying the sweet tooth. Basic hops show themselves and leave bitter. This oatmeal stout has imperial qualities but the difference comes with the mouthfeel and appperance. I wish i had more.

Super Natual Oatmeal Stout was served from a 22 oz bottle. In a pint glass, the beer was nearly black with mahogany edge accents, and was topped by a thin, light tan head. The nose was rather porter-like but good, emitting a rich sharp chocolate maltiness that expressed strong figgy accents, and light anise notes. The taste was excellent and well-developed, if somewhat porter-like. Creamy, complex, and sharp choco-coffee malts opened up with wonderful dark fruit esters, becoming nicely smoky-roasty in the transition to an intruiging black peppery-spice laced finish. This beer had a very nice flow. The body was very full, smooth, and creamy, working well with the flavors and character of the beer. This stout certainly grew on me as it warmed...a finely crafted, full-flavored, and interesting brew.

Dark black color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and dark fruit. A full-bodied Oatmeal stout. Malts are choclately and sweet. Hops are slightly spicy. A nicely balanced stout. Smooth and creamy. Nice undertones of dark fruits and coffee. A touch of caramelized sugar in the finish. A very nice, smooth oatmeal stout. This would be a great starter stout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

After a rather hectic family Thanksgiving..I am looking forward to this beer I purchased a few days ago.
Comes in a 22 oz brown glass bomber..simple screen printed bottle label.
Wow this is a marvelous looking beer poured into my pint mug..black..solid black even held to the light no other colours appear..small tan head..lingers a while.
Nice smell of roasted malts and oats..very fresh.
mmm nice tasting beer..sweet smooth buttery maltiness at first..then an actual taste of oatmeal, after that a bitter bite..a while after the swallow a nice belly warming occcurs.
Very good feel on the palate..smooth as a babys butt.
A very nice warming stout..bordering on Imperial IMO..good drink.

This was such a surprising beer. It said oatmeal stout and I was thinking your typical chunky, dark, coffeeish stout with maybe a little sweetness. Instead it had that overripe fruitiness of many imperial stouts going on with the slightest hint of coffee. This is also one of the few beers I've ever had that you could actually taste the oatmeal, although it came off tasting kind of nougat-like instead of oatmeal-like. Very tasty beer, though. One turn-off was toward the end of the bottle when these large slimy slug-like chunks of what I'm assuming was yeast slid out of the bottle. Beer didn't taste bad though, so I think the yeast was just acting weird.
