20oz pint at The Underground. Having just come off the officially branded AC/DC beer a few days ago, it's mildly apophenia-inducing to randomly run into this now. 42-39-56!
This beer appears a hazy, medium bronzed amber colour, with one flabby finger of puffy, bubbly off-white blonde head, which leaves some rather attractive, and thorough honeycombed lace around the glass as it gradually fades away.
It smells of grainy, sort of crackery bready pale malt, oil of attar, mildly spicy clove, and leafy, grassy hops. The taste is more lightly toasted grainy pale malt, softly acrid floral, perfumed rosewater, ethereal coriander, and weak, watery leafy hops.
The carbonation is fairly subdued, just content in its support work, the body a so-so medium weight (nowhere near 19 stone), and plainly smooth. It finishes on the sweet side, the malt and florals working in tandem to hold off the subtle and inherent bitterness of it all.
A surprisingly agreeable spiced ale, from first glance. The rose and coriander are more or less deftly applied, and well integrated into the base pale ale. You can't quite proclaim "you could say she's got it all", but there's enough here to keep things interesting for a round or two.
