Very strange beer. Looks ok, though a lot of pressure in the bottle. Smell is smokey, like a peaty whisky. It's supposed to combine the best of whisky and beer, but sadly the result is the opposite: the worst of two good things. I really did not like this one, it went down the drain.

McThals or Mc Thals is an enigma. When first tried this at the Brigand in Herentals Belgium (Oct 2012) it was apparent some sort of "scotch barrel aging" had taken place. Phenolic smokey aromas mixed with a touch of vanilla form the oak lignin breakdown products, with a slight bitterness.
Imagine our surprise when we found - at the brewery - that there were no barrels. Simply adding spices during brewing gave these critical flavors.
Nice SRM 3 straw color; faint smokey phenol aroma; intense vanilla phenol bitter flavour; bitter finish with a smooth fizzy mouthfeel; head is frothy.
