When I stopped at Foolproof a few weeks back I saw this beer and I was intrigued. I've never seen a beer utilize tamarind before, which I've been eating for years growing up with Spanish relatives. Let's dive into this one
Pours a cloudy reddish amber with 2 fingers of pink tinted white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
The nose here is really nice, I get plenty of the acidic tartness from the tamarind, some balance of tart and sweet in the cherries, as well as notes of guava, lemon, and a touch of grassy hops
The taste pretty much follows the nose, starting off with notes of funky guava, tart cherry, and very light floral hops. The swallow brings a rush of tart tamarind supported by notes of lemon and crisp bready malt
A light medium body pairs with moderate airy carbonation for a very refreshingly tart beer. The finish is a bit sticky, but it doesn't get in the way of the drinkability
I haven't been this happy with a Foolproof beer in a long time. It hits all the notes for me. Simple, tart, balanced, and easy drinking. I hope they continue to brew it or bring it back at some point, this would also be a great beer to barrel age
