Can't say that I've had a Sahti in a while, nor anything from Foolproof in recent years, as I picked this up on my trip from Providence Street Liquors in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Expected this to be like a sour and to a large extent it was. Bubbly, odd-colored, and easy to drink, this was nice to have on hand for both the summer and for something to sip on without wanting a buzz...
Peach and hibiscus-hued, this had enough of a frothy head that quickly settled and left only a bubbly ring around the top of the liquid. Lots of flowers, yeast, and light fruit in the nose as the taste closely followed suit. Some peach, light gin spice, and funk emerged in the taste as this was a bit heavier than I anticipated. The carbonation kept this from being too weighed down as it was a bit rough on my teeth and in the back. Indeed, there was resin here but not quite like a Sierra Nevada and nowhere near as tart as a true Sour.
Simple to quaff and dated 3/5 on the bottom of the can, it would be a piece of cake to down a few in a sitting. One was enough but only because it was worth the time to savor and fully enjoy. Drink this for what it was - something different and rare in the current beer landscape!
