Steampunk is a beer for those who are looking for something a little traditional with a little spunk. A beer for the beer drinkers!
This California Common is also known as a steam beer which is dark amber in color, with strong malty flavors, a crackery crispness, a balanced hop bitterness and hints of fruity esters. In true punk fashion this beer is made with a lager yeast that is fermented at ale temperatures. It is one of a handful of styles that are truly American. This style was born of necessity, when brewing lagers was brought to California during the Gold Rush, but temperatures were too hot and ice was hard to come by, thus the lager yeast was fermented at a warmer temperature and the style of California Common was born, creating something unique yet classic.

The California common. A classic type of beer made famous by Anchor Brewing (rip - they closed). This is a delicious change of pace beer. Tastes malty with a full mouth feel and finishes wet (that's what she said). It leaves you wanting another drink. It hits the nail on the head for a steam beer.

12oz can. Date stamp on label is 'CANNED 05/09/24'.
Clear, deep amber colored body. One finger of off white head, and this becomes an island and a ring. Leaves behind a few irregular shaped spots of lacing.
Aroma of toasted malts and floral hops.
Taste is malty - caramel and toasted, with a floral/earthy hops addition, along with a bit of raisin/prune. Medium bitterness. Mellow maltiness in the aftertaste, with a touch of sweetness.
Medium mouthfeel. Some numbing of the tongue. Dry finish. Good carbonation.
Good level of bitterness leads to a balance of malts and hops.
