Great beer - this is one of my favorites. I'm so glad that Brew-meisters Jeff & Susan decided to put this one into bottles so I can take it home with me.

Pours a thick black with a thin white head. Nose of roast with a light roasted malt taste. Leaves nice amount of lacing. If you have it at the brewery they will add a shot of coffee to it. I think this adds some character.

one of my favorite beers these guys make, not sure id call it a black ale, i think that conjures images of black ipa, and it certainly isnt that. more of a session type stout in my book, with a ton of deep malty awesomeness that transcends the simple roasty side of things with a rich caramel middle and maybe some oats for body, its really well built from a grain standpoint. others will argue this is too sweet, or straddles a style line in a strange way, but i think both of those critiques are off, and that its uniqueness is what makes it. silky smooth in the feel, and although it might be a touch under carbonated, it really doesnt need the bubbles with this texture, velvety. nice coffee notes on the finish, i know they dose this with espresso in the taproom sometimes, but it doesnt need that to have a rather prominent coffee profile. a really neat beer that i think i like in an autumn context better than a summer one, but its delicious and innovative. more inspired than some of their others it seems.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. After initial taste found it to be a solid but somewhat straightforward stout and elected to take them up on their "tweak" option of adding a shot of fresh espresso (hum- given this option has been around as long as VNB has been producing Logical Fallacy, wondering if this is where Avery got the notion of naming their coffee stout tweak?) - but I digress. The tweaked version poured coffee black with a fine tan head. Coffee, berry, cherry and cinnamon sugar toast on the nose. Flavor isn't quite as complex as the nose with the coffee dominating (no surprise here), but there were also nice sweet spice notes showing through. Finish was pretty clean given the big flavors involved here.
