Sourbon
Brekeriet
Sourbon is a barrel-aged Sour Ale brewed in Sweden by Brekeriet, famed for its Sour Ales and natural yeast brewing. This brew pours orange with a generous off-white head. The aroma is an inviting mix of zesty citrus, and red wine, with just a hint of oakiness courtesy of the aging process. On the tongue Sourbon offers sweet candy flavours mingling with tart mandarin, lemon, and kumquat notes, which, along with the powerful body combine to produce a pleasingly dry finish.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a nice shade of orange topped by a finger of dense off white head that fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of sourness with some lemony citrus character along with some funk and some nice oakyness. There's a little malt in there too providing a little sweetness as well as some caramel
T: Taste is sourness mixed with funk and oak. Hints of red wine and quite citrusy. Swallow is interesting as the bourbon barrel and malt make themselves known with a nice blast of caramel and vanilla. The finish fades to some lingering sourness, funk and light oak.
M: This beer has a medium body with a smooth mouthfeel that is a little slick. The carbonation is a touch lower than expected but still adequate and the beer finishes on the dry side due to the acidity.
O: Overall this beer rocks the house. It has great flavors and complexity as well as some decent balance. Very sour but it also has a good bit of sweetness going on. Definitely one to try if you like sour beer.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/18/2016. Pours lightly hazy medium orange/amber color with a 1 finger off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart/sour lemon, lime, orange peel, green apple, cherry, berries, pear, white wine, oak, pepper, leather, hay, straw, lacto funk, wheat, bread, light vanilla/bourbon/white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tart/sour lemon, lime, orange peel, green apple, cherry, berries, pear, white wine, oak, pepper, leather, hay, straw, lacto funk, wheat, bread, light vanilla/bourbon/white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount of fruity/lactic sourness and yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour lemon, lime, orange peel, green apple, cherry, berries, pear, white wine, oak, pepper, leather, hay, straw, lacto funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with a nice malt/sourness balance, and minimal astringent flavors after the finish; but fairly puckering. Very dry from acidic/tannic notes as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, acidic/tannic, and lightly grainy mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is an outstanding sour ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, oak barrel, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the high level of acidity/tannic barrel notes. A highly enjoyable offering.
