Queen Bee Grapefruit Saison

Grapefruit variant of their El Super Bee saison, which I prefer to this one. Golden-pink in color with a bright, pleasant smell, the taste is complex - but not necessarily in a good way. I feel like the pairing of grapefruit with the funkiness of the saison base just doesn't work; love the inventiveness, but I don't think I'd want another.

 

 

This is a grapefruit saison. Pours a bright orange/golden/slightly amber color with 1 finger, light cream colored head that dissipates quickly. Very clear. No lacing. Typical saison funk smell with an obvious accent of citrus. Some bisquity, bready notes under the citrus. Good representation of a saison flavor profile followed with the bright unique flavor of grapefruit. I liked that the 8.2% abv is highlighted by the grapefruit flavor along with a sharp carbonation but still round body overall. Not just a boozy saison that the fruit flavors are present. Very well balanced. 4 pack cans that say special brew. Normally not a saison fan, but this was good.
