Appearance: pours an orange color hinting at amber. a two fingered white head with good retention and a decent sized lacing left behind on the glass. strong clarity and brightness to it.
Smell: strong hops, full of resin, citrus, pine and tropical fruits. some booziness to it, a little bit of vanilla like sweetness.
Taste: opens up with a bunch of booziness. not quite astringent but nice and smooth booze, almost reminiscent of a really nice vodka. some vanilla to bread-like sweetness. End is full of hops. not quite as fruity as the smell but full of pine, citrus and resin. ends with some bit of bitterness/astringency.
Mouthfeel: medium to full bodied. slight alcohol warmth but nothing too crazy. strong lingering bitterness and some alcohol bite.
Overall: had this on tap and in the bottle. I like the bottle quite a bit more as the astringency in the taste didn't take away from any of the tastes. this is pretty solid DIPA (that's right I didn't say TIPA) with intense bitterness and a nice balanced alcohol bite. it certainly tastes stronger than its 10.5% but I don't think that qualifies it for a new level.
