This beer has an amazing red color, and the style really highlights the bourbon.

Appearance: pours halfway between a burnt orange and a garnet hue. a bug two finger tannish head forms and has decent retention and leaves behind a small frothy lacing. pretty much opaque but a strong brightness shines through.

Smell: amaretto, along with some booze and bourbon. pronounced nuttiness. toasted oak mixing with some toasted coconut and lighter vanilla. some grassiness. malts come through with dark fruits and soft caramel

Taste: opens with some liqueur, in the form of amaretto, but quickly turns into the bigger badder brother with a good dose of bourbon and booze. after the spirit taste the barrel takes over. toasted oak, mixing with a bit of toasted coconut, and vanilla come through with strength. malts are there and powerful but play a much lesser stage than the earlier tastes. notes of nuts, caramel, dark fruits and more grains.

Mouthfeel: heavy and chewy. coats the mouth and leaves behind some varied tastes. strong warming character. alcohol is borderline astringent.

Overall: another solid one by Champion. this one is brash and young now so it might not be to everybody's liking but it is nicely complex and has some great flavor combo. I really love how the toasted oak comes through. Not quite the season but this one should be a good one to crack open on an upcoming cold night, or even saved for the next couple of winters.
