Appearance: pours black but with some deep brown along the edges. a finger or so of a tan head with good retention and leaving behind a moderate lacing. completely dark and opaque
Smell: strong licorice, some roastiness, light coffee, winter spice, slight hot pepper
Taste: opens up with strong licorice flavor. the licorice never fully leaves but lets through some winter spice mix, some molasses, spicy pepper and coffee. good amount of chocolate and with a low to moderate amount of roast. very light juniper.
Mouthfeel: medium to lighter, especially for the style. some lingering licorice and spice.
Overall: served a bit too cold, but this ones flavors never developed quite enough for me. I was really hoping for something a bit dense and possibly strong as well. great for accompanying the Star Wars release but a bigger spicy beer would have stood a better chance of making it for more of the movie.
