For years, the Hogwaller Scramber was well-known in Belmont as our beloved Hogg truck ran kegs to our Tap Room. The Hogg lives on in our memories, and we brewed this complex breakfast stout with coffee and chocolate from Gearhart's Fine Chocolates in tribute.

12 oz can from the Wall of Beer in Clemson SC ($3.19).
Pours clear but very dark with a free reddish-brown body and a decent beige head.
Aroma. Chocolate, coffee, hops and, for no apparent reason, some woodiness.
Flavor. Relatively hoppy with mild - moderate bitterness and no sweetness. Moderate strength for style. No obvious defects although it seems very slightly vegetative.

Cloying but tolerable, with lingering milk chocolate sweetness tipping the beer over balancewise. The coffee can't resist the onslaught, and barely raises much bitterness as it gets swallowed up. Coffee character isn't unique or intricate. The chocolate additive lends only a generic chocolate flavour, and goes so far it almost tastes artificial.
Has a thick fudgy feel to it. A bit silky too, strangely. Soft but unrefreshing. Full-bodied.
In any market this is in that also features Founders Breakfast Stout, I don't see discerning drinkers choosing this.

Picked up a 12 oz can on a recent visit to West Virginia. The beer is cellar temp and Im pouring into a snifter.
Beer is a dark chocolate brown color on the pour and no light passes through the glass when I hold it to the light. I creamy khaki colored head of 2 cm foams up and slowly drops to a sturdy surface layer.
The aroma is dominated by malty notes with dark chocolate notes and a bit of charred coffee. The coffee notes are not very bold and there are not hops nor ABV hints on the nose. For an Imperial Stout I would want a little more of a robust nose, but its okay.
First sip reveals an average body with smooth silky texture and fine and tingly carbonation. This is pretty easy drinking for 8%.
Flavor is what the nose shows, with dark chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee grounds mixing together. The coffee ground note lingers after each swallow. I dont get anything from the 8% and hops are buried here too. This is a pretty solid but not mind blowing imperial stout. Glad I had a chance to try it and I would like to check out some others from this brewery.

Pours black with a low/medium khaki head
Nose is muted coffee, toasted malt.
Rich chocolate, coffee, burnt/Charred malt.
Not bad, but there are definitely better breakfast stouts out there.

12oz can poured into a snifter
A- pours deep black in color with a one-finger creamy khaki colored head that has good retention and leaves some lacing behind
S- aroma is predominately coffee, smells like Folgers brand. Light undertone of chocolate, other than that pretty simple
T- the chocolate comes through much more on the taste, mixing with the coffee to provide a nice cafe mocha note. The finish brings out some earthy coffee notes, and lingers of chocolate
M- medium-light body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns into a slightly creamy finish
O- solid coffee and chocolate mix with high drinkability, solid

Draft at Lost & Found. Dark, inky black, tiniest ring of head. Roasty aroma, bitter, burnt toast, dark chocolate. Taste is all of the above and silky smooth.
