Out of retirement and being canned and sold in the area. Poured from a pint can into a pint glass. Off-white head that dissipates quickly. The body of the beer is definitely 'dunkel' in color. described as 'Deep Garnet' on the can. Sweet malty aroma. The maltiness is the main flavor on the first sip. Minimal hops, nice lager finish. Decent example of the German style dark lager. Both American and German malts used; only German hops.

Poured from a recent can into the stein
A - Beautiful dark mahogany color, excellent carbonation and clarity. A big white cap on top
S - A bit of toasted malt, some light pumpernickel cracker, a wisp of raisin
T - Follows the nose well.
M - Excellent body, semi sweet start, quickly shifts to neutral, carbonation moves things along. Linger is a bit roasty and fine.
O - A very good lager that hits the style very well.

Purchased about a month ago in Pittsfield along with a bomber of their popular Fat Boy DIPA (already reviewed). We do not get distribution of this brewery's products near me, even though it is a Massachusetts business and only about an hour and a half away. Apparently too new and too small.

Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a Samuel Adams English nonick.

a: Clear copper with an inch tall tan head which receded to thin even surface foam and a little spotty lacing.

s: Mild dark fruit and dark malt.

t: Follows the nose. Sweetish finish. Some smoky notes later.

m: Medium, good body and carbonation tingle.

o; A good representation of this German style. Sessionable and drinkable, if not a particularly alluring sipper. A decent buy at $4 per.

Pours a very clear mahogany/ruby reddish color with a smallish head that dissipates quickly.
Aroma is very malty, not much else.

Taste is clean and smooth with a lingering malty finish. I'm not getting much depth out of it.
Mouthfeel is on the drier side and leaves a very light watery aspect at the end, which I'm not too keen on.

For a lager, it stays true to it's style, but not my favorite.
