Im sampling a cellar temp 750 ml bottle of this brew 2021 vintage. Picked it up at the brewery about a week ago. Pouring this beer into my trusty snifter.
The beer pours a black coffee color with a fizzy tan head of 1 cm foaming up. This foam fades to a sturdy edge layer and one wispy island in the center of my glass.
The aroma is bakers chocolate, rich bourbon notes, some wooden barrel hints and a little black licorice. I dont get any hops nor any boozy heat or fusol notes which is impressive for 10.5%.
First sip reveals a medium body very fine tingly carbonation. Texture is very smooth and the beer drinks pretty easy for such a big stout. Could be a little dangerous.
Flavor is similar to the nose with some dark chocolate and bourbon, I do get some booze here and a little dark fruit (raisins). No hops here either. Finish is heavy with roasted malts and almost smokey. A pretty solid barrel aged imperial stout. glad to have picked this one up for the first beer for me from this brewery.
