A 500ml bottle with a BB of May 2014. Picked up a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Presumably a light wheat ale.
Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy orange-amber hue with chunky floating sediment and low carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of grainy malt with hints of dry earthy yeast, husky wheat, subtle floral hops and mild stewed leaves. Not bad but pretty subdued.
Tastes of light grain and earthy yeast with a dry finish. Notes of mild grainy malt, faint wheat, earthy yeast, subtle esters and stewed leaves. A twinge of cardboard in the background. Well-attenuated and dry, followed by a delicate bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and decent body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of earthy yeast, grain and subtle stewed leaves.
OK though I can't say the character really stands out. Looks a tad lacklustre, while the aroma and flavour are very yeasty and grainy with little else going on. Dry and attenuated, with a subtle bitterness. Body is alright. The wheat doesn't come across much and I reckon the yeast probably developed to excess. Goes down easily but doesn't make an impression. No need to seek it out.
