In 2020, my team pawtnered with the great people from Sagamore Spirit on a Barleywine project. After sampling this sweet nectar that exhibited notes of dark cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, and molasses; I was reminded of my favorite old fashions made with rye, and I had to get my paws on these barrels for my Imperial Stout. - Mitzy

Nose is rye and almost mexican chocolate. Poured thick rich and flat. Minimal head. Taste of chocolate, cinnamon and a blast of rye. Amazing thick mouthfeel swirled with whiskey. Tangy finish really highlighting the rye barrel. Exceptional stout.

Lovely bottle encased with a wax cap. Reminiscent of days gone by. A nice head emerged with the initial pour. The idea of a Rye barrell aged stout intrigued me. Full bodied flavors, Coffee smell and flavors are well balanced. Overall a top notch Stout.

Poured into a 16 oz goblet not sure when it was bottled. Pours near pitch black with a half finger dark tan head that leaves some thin streaks of lace with solid retention. 4.25
Aroma is dark chocolate, cinnamon, hazelnut, vanilla bean, and spicy sweet rye. 4.25
Taste follows dark chocolate, cinnamon, hazelnut, vanilla, and rye bourbon. 4.25
Mouthfeel is above average, a tad dry, gentle carbonation, and at 11.9% it goes down rather easy. 4.25
Overall this is a pretty darn tasty stout. I would say definitely worth a shot. 4.25

From the 2021 batch 500 ml bottle with a green waxed top. Sampled Dec 11, 2021.
The color is chocolate brown to jet black with a modest then fading brown head. But there is a but of lacing left in its wake.
The aroma sensations are chocolate and vanilla malts right off the bat with a slight barrel and boozy character and a much lower profile earthy hop presence. Some anise too.
Full, smooth bodied mouthfeel.
The taste is immediately sweet and booming withy chocolate and vanilla. The booze is less notable in the taste than in the aroma. Maybe a bit of black licorice comes through, A warming finish. Most definitely a slow sipping brew.
I am partial to Imperial Stouts and this is done quite well.

Enjoying from a 0.5l bottle, purchased for $15.00 at The Beer Store (Nashua) recently....
Pours a dense, opaque, oily black color. Head is a mocha color, and is fine, thin and wispy. Most of the suds is clinging to the edge, where some light lace also appears. Aroma is of dark fruit, cocoa, caramel and dark choco, with a hint of spiciness. Body is easily medium, bordering on med-plus, and it is satiny smooth going down.
Flavor is a bit sweet, with a nice load of malts. Has caramel and a touch o' toffee, plus dry cocoa powder, dark choco, some dates and figs. Though not picking up any traces of the rye barrel, this is still quite tasty and well made. Cheers!
P.S. - Upon further review - as the bier warmed, I did get some caramelized brown sugar and a suggestion of a spicy rye character near the finish.
