This 0.5l bottle was a Christmas gift from my Daughter Caitlin.... Diving in on Super Sunday....

Pours a clear, lovely, rich, garnet-ruby color. Has minimal carbo within, and a very thin, wispy layer of light tan foam up top. Lacing is on the light side, but the color is exquisite. Has an aroma of dark fruit, like dates, raisins, and black cherry. The feel is so smooth and silky, with the beer having a solid medium-plus body.

Has a semi-sweet base of malty caramel and toffee. Then there's some caramelized brown sugar, plus figs, dates and raisins. It's a lovely, rich mix of dark fruit and malty notes. Has some subtle, earthy, floral hopping in the finish. Lastly, the Bourbon/Whiskey action is right there, lurking just below the surface. A supremely tasty libation! Cheers!!

603 Barrel Aged Barleywine; 2022

Vintage

603 Brewery Barleywine - American

Malty oak with vanilla and musky caramel. Thick, smooth, Full, pours out like syrup. Toasty bread with cinnamon and honey. It's almost too oily and syrupy to be liquid lol. Whiskey and beer with some citrus style sweetness and basically have whatever here

Wax-top 375 mL bottle purchased locally. Pours thicker than expected. Color is medium caramel with minimal head.
The smell has subtle notes of caramel and buttery notes as well. No noticeable character of hops or barrel.
The taste is tolerable at first, but the buttery diacetyl makes it presence known very quickly, despite some notes of whiskey.
The feel is thick, like someone cut a beer with a tablespoon of butter blended with meh whiskey.
Overall this was a drain pour. Wish I had seen the review from @Roguer before purchasing. Oh well. Cheers.

Very good looking BA barleywine. Not a ton of head, but crystal clear and vibrant in the glass.

The nose is subdued, with little (but some) whiskey, and unfortunately, a big buttery note. I was hoping that was just part of the malt base and wouldn't translate to the palate ...

... but it did, and in a big way. There are some hints of leather, bark, and toffee beneath, and very minor notes of the barrel influence, but everything is dominated by buttery notes of diacetyl.

This is unfortunately a drain pour after three sips. I could suffer through it, but with so much good beer available, why would I?
