Enjoying a 0.5l bottle obtained in a trade with a bud who works at The Backyard Brewery.... Bottle #293 out of 603.
Pours a deeply opaque, dark mahogany color. A hard pour initially produced a 1/4" layer of beige suds, but it rapidly ebbed to a thin finer covering layer. Has light lacing in the glass also. Has aromas of dark fruit, red wine, some oak and caramelized brown sugar. Body is medium-plus, and it is light on prickle and heavy on smoothness.
Flavor is solid, with raisins, dates, prunes and black cherry to lead off. Has a nice semi-sweetness with all the dark fruit swirling around on the palate. Has a bit of cocoa powder, as well as light notes of bourbon and rum. The fruit action lingers nicely, segueing into a dryish finish with some earthy hopping. A solid brew, all around. Prosit!!
