I am on a CANQuest (tm) for a little while to give myself a break from eradicating The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody. I've been away for so long that it's good to be back.
From the CAN: "
Once more, having Crack!ed the CAN open, I began a gentle Glug since this one had had some time on it. I was met with two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with excellent retention that left great lacing in its wake. Color was Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. I could really smell the presence of rye on the nose as indicated by its minty-peppery character. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste had a beautiful rye tang to it, laden with black pepper & fresh mint. Finish was appropriately dry & I would certainly drink this if the ball game went into a 33rd inning!

Poured into a lager glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt dark orange almost amber color with a two finger white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Light stringy lace. The aroma had some sweet and spicy rye up front with a little bit of clean caramel and toffee malts steadying themselves into some dark fruits and a little bit of brown sugar. Light grassy hops. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side initially indicating a delicate dark fruitiness playing underneath. Aftertaste was malty with the dark fruits. Finish was quick and malty. The palate was between light and medium bodied. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate. Overall, I liked it for me, but was wishing there would have been a bit more of the rye in the flavor.

Beautiful copper hue. crisp carbonation. Complemented by the earthy rye spice. Fine finish with a bit of a pleasant lingering taste. With some time, it definitely lost some hop and spice. still good.

On-tap 4/25/2015 at Doherty’s Ale House in Warwick, RI served in a tapered pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep coppery red color, with a large dense off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains fruit, caramelized malts, lager yeast and some hops.
T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast and a hearty malt character. Then some sweetness comes in from flavors of caramel and fruit. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.
