Notes / Commercial Description:
Maibocks are a Bavarian beer style. Bocks are strong German-style lagers and can range from light to dark. Maibocks are typically golden to light amber. They were served in the Spring to celebrate the end of winter. The Bavarian mayor (burgermeister) traditionally taps the first keg. Hizzoner Maibock is a golden full-bodied lager that has been extensively lagered to develop sweetness and crispness of character.

Pleased to find a Maibock on draft at Mews Tavern in RI as it's often hard to find this style these days. Pours an amber color with a very mild sweetness in the aroma. That mild sweetness carries forward into the taste along with some faint malty background. Not surprised that there was very minimal bitterness. I ordered a second and appreciate the fact that Two Roads came out with this product although, thus far, I haven't seen it in a bottle or can.

Draught: This one pours a dark amber color. There was a small off white head that left just a little lacing. Good nose. Caramel malts and some fruits. The taste is good. Caramel malts, some fruits and earthiness. Nice.

I like maibocks so having this on draft was a treat. Easy drinking lager with the requisite sweetness I associate with beers of this style, a malt forward presence that is a nice change of pace. Nice clarity in the glass, but a bit more dark like a DIPA in appearance than I was expecting for a helles. Some caramel and vanilla on the nose but not overpowering.

Pours a deep amber almost brown with a decent sized head that trails the glass as you drink. The scent is very heavy with both heavy wood and vanilla notes as well as some floral notes hidden here and there. The taste was great, although full of sweet malt flavors it is not overly heavy and had a very refreshing finish. Thought it was a really nice way to go.

On-tap 5/17/2014 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light reddish brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruit, honey, lager yeast, caramelized malts and some hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of honey and fruit. Then a hearty malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

On tap at 2 Bros. Pours a translucent brownish amber color with almost no head. Virtually no lacing. The aroma is grassy and malty with bready notes. The taste is more of the same. Malty at first followed up by some floral and grassy hops. Caramel as well as some breadiness. Smooth and crisp with a nice malty finish. Light mouthfeel. Very drinkable with a light alcohol presence. Overall, pretty solid brew I'd grab again.

Had on tap at the brewery

Appearance: amber-gold in color, 1/4 inch head, moderate carbonation, clear

Smell: sweet sugary honey and cedar

Taste: woodsy, cedary, bready malt with some honey

Mouthfeel: medium carbonation, light body, sweet

Overall: Wow. What a malty and woodsy--but not wood aged treat. Really love the flavors here. This may be my favorite Two Roads brew outside of Igor. One of the better maibocks I have had in while. This is one I hope the brew again.

A clear golden amber color with a reasonable layer of white foam on top and very nice lacing. The aroma is vinegar-malt with wheat and lemon and some rhubarb ideas. The flavor delivers strong malt with more citrus nuances. There's an interesting leafy-lemon hop that blends well with the wheat and malt backbone. It's solidly medium body with a somewhat thick, slightly viscous feel. The carbonation is mild but very effective with a slight spiciness. Very flavorful stuff and something I would revisit any time.

On-tap at the brewery tasting room.

A: Clear bright amber body under a finger of dense white head. Good retention, light lace. Solid.

S: Light bready malts are front and center, with some fruity and nutty undertones as well as a dose of leafy hops. Nice.

T: Crisply malty up front, with sweeter fruit notes behind. Bigger sweetness on the finish, along with some faint hop bitterness. Enjoyable, but not quite as fresh-tasting as the aroma suggested.

M: Soft, creamy, velvety medium body. Amazing.

O: Really nice, full-bodied lager. One of the better Two Roads offerings so far.

Poured from tap at coalhouse Stamford ct. Pours a maple color with a bit of foamy head that dissipates quick. Nice carbonation. Good sweet malty aromas with a bit of mapley sugar. Taste is sweet malts with a big crispness. Some slight dried fruit notes...really pleasant. Super easy to drink and just all around a great brew.
