I randomly had this one on tap at a Peruvian restaurant, and it went very well with my paella. It's not the very best rye I've ever had but it was still quite good, and I'm getting more into ryes lately anyway, so that was a good choice with my meal. You don't feel the 9% ABV, that's for sure. Would try other stuff from them as well.

this double red rye is delicious, one of the better beers going at gravity, although i have to admit, they were all pretty good! not sure why i expected an ipa here, but its not that. more of a spicy amber, well hopped for sure, but more grain than hop driven, and the high proportion of rye makes it stand out. clear brick red to bronze in color, with a lot of light refracting though it making it look super radiant. the head is tall and it doesnt go away. nose and taste are similar, with the rye malt being immediately evident in both. softer and less spice driven than others because its so well balanced out by crystal maybe 60 malt with its sweetness. i like the hops, juicy and orange peel sort of notes, a more approachable citrus complexion than a grapefruit or a lemon, and there isnt a ton of bitterness. the balance in those respects is phenomenal. overall though its a little sweet and strong for me to have too much of. the booze comes through as it warms, and the sweetness lingers longer than the hops do. that said, this is unlike other beers, and seems to effectively marry a number of styles that dont always gel the best. i could see this really being good in a white wine barrel with the sweet oak and mild acidity. this was fun stuff though, gravity is awesome.
