There's a small beige head that leaves a single thin ring. Muddy brown color where no light passes.
The smell is closest to iced cocoa. Relatively mild, but there's a touch of black patent bitterness.
Bittersweet taste with a touch of ginger and warming alcohol. Thinner body than many RISs although there is a bit of oiliness; the carbonation is subdued. The finish is brandy-like but relatively short lasting.

Very dark brown, medium-sized tan head with abundant lacing.
Aroma of chocolate, some vanilla.
Very chocolate taste, with some espresso showing up mid-taste.
Smooth, alcohol well-hidden.

Poured into a Westy chalice a pretty nice black color, very nice carbonation, with a small quick tan head, which leaves a medium size island and some sticky lacing behind. The nose is very nice malty, lots of chocolate/toffee, vanilla. The taste is very nice malty, a very nice touch of chocolate/toffee, nice vanilla, roasty. Full body, ABV is hidden extremely well, pretty complex brew. Overall, this is a very tasty brew. If you see some around check it out.

Thanks to Retsinis for sharing this one at mrbubbler's tasting.
Pours a clear dark crimson-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, chocolate syrup, molasses, and toffee aromas. Taste is much the same with chocolate syrup, molasses, toffee, and char flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice mix of chocolate, molasses, and toffee qualities all around.
Serving type: bottle.

Smells of a clean dark roasted grain, caramel, dark chocolate and dark fruit but not sweet. A Slight ABV burn
You can taste the 12% but it isn't boozy because its balanced by the huge backbone of dark caramel roasted and not at all bitter grain with brown sugar and molasses flavors. It reminds me a lot of one of my favorite RIS Founders Imperial Stout. Solid flavors

750ml bottle, thanks for sharing BA smoked. Poured into a snifter. the brew appears a dark brown color with brown clarity and off-white head. Some spotty lace sticks to the glass.
The smell is fruity like raison, anise, leather and chocolate. Overall quite clean and enjoyable leaning more towards the sweet and fruity side of the style.
The taste is sweet like the nose indicated with flavors of raison, molasses, char, leather, anise, chocolate and finishes with a mild roasty bitterness.
This is medium to full bodied with a modest amount of carbonation. The alcohol is well integrated until it warns up then it starts to show. Overall not bad but definitely one of the sweeter/fruitier RIS's ive had in awhile.

a very well made stout from gravity here, ive heard the bourbon version is amazing too, but i like the base beer here, its frothy and thick, with plenty of espresso coffee flavors in it, and a big oatmeal type body and just enough booze happening. espresso colored head on the dark hersheys syrup colored brew is consistent with the theme of coffee, which is a dominant aroma and flavor, surprised there isnt actually coffee in this. bitter and sweet both, roast and brown sugar, a cool balance that enhances both sensations rather than canceling them out. frothy feel is really nice, and while its plenty viscous, its not sticky and sweet at the end, drinks down a little easier than most in its class. impressive stuff from gravity, who i like a whole lot, except for their bottle prices, which continue to deter me from experimenting with more of their beer.
