this was tasty, but it tasted a little old to me, like it didnt survive the trip through the mail out to colorado real well. i am excited to have another, fresher can on the way, and will report back on that as soon as i dip into it. for now, this is seemingly a radically different beer than the base, more complex for sure, and a lot more hop flavor than just the bitterness and mango type i recall in the original, somewhat less malty overall despite the on the way to fading vibe i got from it. paler in color too i think, some sediment in here towards the bottom of the can, very fine grain and uniform, and it doesnt bother me much. tons of head on this, very lively in the glass. aroma has pineapple, passion fruit, orange, and grapefruit, more citrus than i remember in the original, and there is enough of it in the flavor to take over the some of the nuance in the grain that stood out to me in the original. lots of fruit, and more bitterness than i am used to in the double dry hopped beers out there right now, i dig that. lots of body and lots of bubbles, but the booze is a little exposed to me, and its got some fruity sweetness too that lingers. i liked this, not sure i liked it more than the original, but i am holding my breath for a fresher can to try. more to come...

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Cloudy golden brown pour. Creamy white head leaves great lacing.

S: Dank hops... grapefruit forward. Pine and light tropicals.

T/F: Light tropicals and strong grapefruit presence. Loads of juice and citrus... some resinous pine and pepper mixed in. Think and chewy... slick and oily. Finish is bitter grapefruit rind.

O: Overall outstanding DIPA. A great beer and hides its ABV dangerously well... lots of flavor and this one went down far too fast.
