This looks like liquid corten steel (SRM 13-16). A thick layer of beige foam falls from two inches to a blanket very quickly. The beer is clear with no active carbonation, while a webbing of lace coats the Spaten dimpled mug.

The aroma opens with toasted malt that is quite strong. Sweet wheat bread and nut hulls follow, as does an unfortunate soapiness.

The sweet toasted malt carries forward along with wheat bread. Light bitterness counters the sweetness. The finish is long and bready.

The medium body accentuates its creamy texture. Alcohol is as expected, while carbonation is soft.

This is a decent Marzen. There is nothing special here, and it would be appropriate during a tailgate party.

DATE: October 21, 2023... OCCASION: just returned home after celebrating Mom's birthday with the family--always good times... GLASSWARE: Otto's dimpled mug... pours a chestnut-amber body whose bubbles build a thick, tan head that settles to a thin film... toffee, caramel, and a vague nuttiness wed rye spiciness, sweet bread malts and a bit of earthiness... thin, drinkable but not particularly a positive aspect... finishes smoothly but without much of a draw... effervescence is fleeting... the flavor profile follows as thinly, with shades of the aroma appearing as softened caramel, toffee, and sweet tea mute the profile... Singlecut's price point is often noticeably high, and this was no different--but the payoff is not on par with other marzens... it doesn't depart from the style, but it also doesn't fulfill its promise either....

Opaque caramel brown with a tan head and light lacing. In both taste and smell there is sweet caramel malt, fluffy white bread, a hint of nut shells, and general German malt that has gone stale. Feel is flat malts that while smooth are not crisp or interesting, just drags down the beer. Drinkable, but almost seems like it wasn't finished all the way

Aggressive pour from the can produced a brief 1" head that quickly fades to thin cap; hazy, cloudy dark amber. Nose is metallic up front, maybe a bit of dark fruit. As it warms, a bit of orange peel comes through; overall, however, not much on the nose. Taste essentially follows - there's some generic brown sugar sweetness, a bit of bitter hop, but the flavor is pretty flat. Finish is harsh - definitely feel the alcohol, despite it only registering at 6%. Mouthfeel, however, is nice and crisp. Overall, it's not the train wreck I expected, but add in the price point and...yeah.

A- Tallboy pours into a tulip glass with an orange-amber body and a one finger white crown. The head has a silky and frothy texture and okay retention. Lacing is a mix of spots and thin sheets.

S- Malty aromas make up most of the smell with nuttiness, caramel, biscuit, toasty and spicy hop notes. Light-medium overall strength.

T- Mostly getting those malts again with crusty bread, nuttiness, caramel, toast, biscuit and even slight toffee coming to mind. The beer is lightly sweet and there are some earthy, spicy and grassy notes. A touch of apple and an odd spiciness.

MF- Medium bodied overall with a moderately high level of carbonation. The beer has a puffy and foamy texture and it ends with a fairly strong grassy bitterness.

Kind of just like flat toasty to browned malts with medium sweetness and some fruitiness and spiciness that stands out a bit too much for the style. Just kind of meh.

I rated this beer a couple years ago, and wasn't that crazy about it. Wanted to give it another shake this year (feeling like I needed to get into the Marzen season), and this is better than I remember - not sure if that's be cause the batch is actually better, or the can I had last time was older, though we'll never know.

Rust red brown mostly transparent body, white to offwhite head that falls really quick. Smell is tame, but bready, sweet, a little allspice. Taste is sweet malt and a bit of roast, with a bit of cinnamon/allspice/herbal note in the back and a little alcohol warmth.

Overall, it's what I wanted for the time and style - I've had better, but this isn't bad.
