DEAN is our loving tribute to the Amber/Red Ales that we loved from the Pacific Northwest- rich and complex, a toffee malt aroma with a long beautiful linger of grapefruit, gently spicy pine, and a super satisfying quench. You may have forgotten, but this beer is goood. A Brewer’s favorite for great reason.

New edition can. Clear, mahogany color with a huge, off-white head. The aroma of caramel malt, offers, and pine. Malty taste with moderate, hoppy bitterness. A nice one

Dense but small head. It leaves several rings before switching to spots and shorter streaks. Darker amber/lighter brown color appears to be clear.
Earthy and weedy in equal measure. Little malt aroma. Light yeast.
Dry and earthy on the tongue. Decent body with a lower carbonation. The malt portion, while mild, features darker malts. The hop is present throughout with it peaking at the swallow. Shorter aftertaste.

Although produced year round for the most part, I really like this as a Fall beer. Hints of orange, pineapple gummis, pine, grapefruit, and clove-pepper spicing that bespeak winter, but with the cara, munich, and just a hint of choco malt that hearkens back to the last vestiges of Fall before that brutal cold. Very surprise the first time I had it as it is unassuming...a real sleeper. Near picture perfect look with more copper-red than mahogany, and a large session lasting egg shell meringue head. Ultra soft feel with a medium body.

Pretty solid, not 100% on depth with this mahog, but slant on a pale ale to ease into fall

Color is.. mahogany, deep copper/amber, slight haze. Frothy egg-white meringue head. Upfront malty biscuit and cereal sweetness, some lemon and citrus tang, caramel. Medium body and somewhat smooth. A really interesting beer, reminds me of an Irish red maybe mixed with a pilsner or helles lager. Worth a try

Minimal info on the can - 45 IBU - my can says 5.6% alc/vol. I don't get the Dean part of the inside joke in the name but it may refer to a red stone butte in Utah or some such by the label art.
Mahogany Pale Ale they call it. Many would call it a red ale , even amber or brown. It's not pale but it is sorta mahogany colored, less red than dark amber but I quibble.
Very attractive glass. Deep amber in the light, dark amber near mahogany in the shadows. Full, dense, whipped cream head, just a tad off white with good lacing and tenacious retention.
Aroma is sweet with caramel malt and rising bread scents and some light grassy hop notes.
Flavor up front is red/amber ale - nice crystal and chocolate malt flavors, a distinct roasted grain character along with some red wine fruitiness.
Body is thin - well shy of medium and the sweet flavors drop away quickly leaving a sharp, piney hop bite on the palate and lingering bitterness on the tongue.
Looks and starts like a red-brown ale and finishes like a pale. Tasty, malty and different in an IPA world.
