An “English session” beer, but more flavourful than an Ordinary Bitter, yet still brewed for drinkability. Balanced toward bitterness with an apparent malt character, soft and herbal with a light earthly quality that keeps you grounded. Subtle and simple, this beer was made for drinking.

Enjoyed at Spiteful Brewery (Chicago, Illinois): Thursday, June 10, 2021 Spiteful Best Bitter
Brewer Social Media Notes: 4% ABV. An English Session Beer, more flavorful than an Ordinary Bitter, yet still brewed for drinkability. Balanced toward bitterness with an appearance malt character, soft and herbal with a light herbal quality that keeps you grounded. Subtle and simple, this beer was made for drinking.
Appearance: Light straw colour pour, bright white head lingers briefly before leaving a ring above the base and fine lacing. Light carbonation. 3.5
Aroma: Roast malt, tobacco, backed by light grassy and floral hop aroma. Light in strength. 3.5
Taste: Consistent with the aroma, though stronger. Roast malt primary taste, dry and bitter, tobacco backing which I don’t recall in an any previous English Bitters I’ve had. I like it, it’s unique. Then again I like Menthols, and this is like having a few Newports I enjoyed back in the day, sans the lung cancer and only slightly minty. 4.0
Mouthfeel: Light fizzy carbonation persistent throughout, dry and bitter. Easy drinking, light dry tobacco aftertaste. 3.75
Overall: This is a unique English bitter. Roast malt and cigarettes, dry and bitter, light and easy. I’m either bringing this home or my favorite local IPA. Recommend with the taste profile spelled out, different than most in this style. 4.0
