11/9/20 @ Spiteful Brewing (Chicago, Illinois) Spiteful Brewing’s Whale Tale Amber, a 4.5% Dry Amber Ale. $4.50 for a 10 oz draft pour. Per discussion with the bartender, it’s brewed in collaboration with Pequods, a local pizza place.
Appearance: Clear golden amber pour, bright white head with fine bubbles leaves creamy lacing in its wake. Faint carbonation. Nice looking Amber Ale. 4.0
Aroma: Very nice roasted malt aroma, caramel and toffee vibrant, like a candy store well made treat. Lemon and citrus hops aroma helps provide balance. 4.75
Taste: Mirrors aroma, more balanced with the sweetness subdued by hops bitterness taking the lead. Malt caramel and toffee holds their own, taste as pleasant as the aroma. This is an excellent Amber Ale, I believe the best I’ve had. 4.75
Mouthfeel: Light medium body, faint carbonation holds throughout, creamy malt provides solid backbone, hops providing g nice dry and bitter notes, excellent balance, clean finish. 4.25
Overall: This is a most excellent light ABV Amber Ale, bold in aroma and taste. Highly recommend if you are looking for an excellent tasting light abv beer. 4.5
