Aged for 3 years in Weller bourbon barrels, then finished for 1 year in an 18 year old Elijah Craig bourbon barrel. The dense body and fudge profile of the base beer was heightened by flavors of coconut and vanilla from its combined 4 years aging in barrels.

Brewed with Munich, dark chocolate and caramel malts.

2/23/25 - (Can- Home) (Chicago, IL) Can Notes: Purchased refrigerated at Spiteful Brewing for $12.50 per can plus tax on February 2, 2025, and refrigerated upon returning home before opening this morning. 12 oz canned 11/13/24 @ 12:53:41 PM. 13.0% ABV Double Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. Brewed & Canned at Spiteful Brewing, 2024 W. Balmoral Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.

Appearance: Poured most of the can into a large snifter, yielding a dark pitch black base, and a brief creamy rich dark tan head before retreating to form a cream ring atop the base rim of the glass, and a razor thin cover over about 10% of the base. Looks foreboding and quiet excellent . 4.5

Aroma: After letting twenty minutes to reach proper serving temperature, the standout is a very strong, smooth, wonderful bourbon barrel leading the way. Backing is the roast and caramel malt flavors, and a rich chocolate fudge. A lot going on here, all blends particularly well. can't wait to dive in. 4.75

Taste: Rich decadent experience, excellent blend of a rich near pudding like base, caramel, toffee, roast malt, bakers chocolate, chocolate fudge, vanilla, near Neapolitan like with perceived strawberries which are not part of the ingredients. Coconut opens up a bit as this continues to warm with proper measure. The bourbon barrel follows. Smells strong and might be overpowering with the aroma, but comes in on equal terms with a very smooth flavor Getting a nice oak, tobacco complement to this profile. I haven't had this many experiences in a BBA Imperial Stout in quite some time, if not ever. This is among the best I can ever recall after enjoying hundreds. 5.0

Mouthfeel: Subtly strong, felt but with a velvet touch. Faint gentle carbonation, full plus rich decadent creamy body, one of the thickest I have enjoyed in quite some time. Balanced, the sweet flavors balanced by hops and the bourbon barrels. Slight edge to sweetness. Wonderful bourbon chocolate fudge coconut finish. 5.0

Overall: This is one of the best beer experiences I can recall. I really enjoyed this at the festival, but having the full pour confirms this was a top selection and is one of the best selections in this or any styles. Spiteful exceeded very high expectations with my sample. While I have way to much beer, I am picking up more of this to savor and also share. This is a must experience selection. Thank you for everything Spiteful! 5.0
