August 25th, 2015 - Another stellar brew from Rip Current. Their Scotch Ale is a deep ruby red, with a slight haze and an angry looking temperament. Though this is not their version aged in oak chips, the smell is dark and smoky, with some mesquite and spices reminiscent of aged beef jerky. A solid body holds up a smoky, hot beer with an underlying pit of swirling deep sweetness, like a fig. Blackberry is also spotted around the edge of the taste too, decorating a deep, rich and malty brew.

Consumed at the brewery tasting room, April 20th, 2014.
Beer is a very clear deep garnet with dark amber highlights. Head is just a wisp withina couple of minutes.
Juicy, fruity aroma (raisins, plums) and a slightly smokey note. Peat?
Palate follows nose; pitted fruits, slightly sweet with a touch of smoke. Finish is moderately bitter.
A bit still in the mouth but otherwise fine mouthfeel.
Runs with the pack but doesn't break out ahead.
