June 1st, 2015 - Rip Current - slightly uncommon in San Diego - shows it can master styles across both lagers and ales. The Night Surfing is a beautifully dark beer, with a light aroma. I catch rye and blackberry and touches of juniper there as well, with some chocolate shavings. The richness of pine sap offers some depth and gives me the slight sensation of camping. Like the smell, the palate is light, and a perfect weight for the flavor. It's also effervescent and a little velvety. The flavor starts and ends mild with some overripe raspberry and light chocolate and blueberry notes, plus additional touches of juniper. It's incredibly drinkable and well worth a second pint if you're enjoying your time with friends here at the North Park tasting room.
