Modest head production and decent retention given the ABV and extensive barrel aging.
Nose is, naturally, absolutely swimming with bourbon, along with notes of chocolate, syrup, molasses, licorice, brown sugar, honeycomb. Hot, but not intimidating.
More bitter than expected on the palate, with plenty of char and roasted malt. Oak hits first, then the wave of slightly sour bourbon mash washes over the palate. Blackstrap molasses, cherry, red grape, toast, char, bourbon, bourbon, more bourbon, Baker's chocolate.
Big, bold, boozy brew, but somehow not too hot. Not as thick as I'd like, especially given the insane ABV, but that's not a shock given the extensive barrel aging.
This is definitely a beer for bourbon lovers - BCBS on steroids. If you love BBA stouts, you'll like it, but I suspect that if you love bourbon, you'll love it.
